You are RIGHT ON, Ben! I read that DuPont that holds the patent for Teflon put out a warning to NEVER use anything with Teflon in a motor, they said it wasn't made for that and it can't work as it simply passes into the oil filter and plugs it up.
The oil companies put the additives into the oil that is engineered for the motor and if there is a 'magic formula' they would use it!
DO NOT use anything but a high quality oil in your car! In fact, check out this link:
